The Mocking Bird

In chapter 10 on page 90 Ms. Maudie is the first character in the
book to talk about killing a mockingbird. She explains to Scout how
it's a sin "to kill a mockingbird." I think this might be foreshadowing
significant events later in the story?

Yeah, especially since Scout and Jem recieve guns for Christmas.

I don't think it is foreshadowing events as much as it's presenting an example of a message in the book.

it's prolly foreshadowing something
about Atticus's new case as a
lawyer that he's been talking about? i'm not really sure....but just an idea.

i think a mocking bird has nothing to do with this book, i think its mainly symbolizing something else in the story

mmhhmmm okay...we'll see

It could work as freshadowing of the plot, but I think its more about the theme of the book, I mean, they say its a sin to kill a mockingbird, there's probably something in the story that is a sin.

well i've seen the movie...
i'm pretty sure it's got
something to do with foreshadowing.
and don't tell me that movies are totally different than the books.

I agree with princess. Its probably a sin their foreshadowing.

MIss Maudie says on page 90, "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." Maybe a mockingbird is symbolic of innocent people that others are unfair or violent to. Maybe they symbolize the Negros that the people of Maycomb are prejudice against.

actually yes i would have
to agree with the fact that
the mockingbird may symbolize
the blacks of maycomb county.
and i think one of these particular blacks will have a certain role to play along with the title.

We already know that. Atticus is defending him (Tom Robinson) in court!
