Knot-hole Tree
Why do you think the tree was filled up with cement? If the tree wasn't sick, then why did Mr. Radley fill it up. Since he filled it then I suspect he wasn't the one putting the things there in the first place. I think that Boo Radley was the one leaving things in the tree. But I don't know why he would do that unless he is looking for some friends.

I think that Boo Radley used the knot hole in the tree as they thought - as a hiding place for his treasures.
I think its him too but i dont know how he could do it...he NEVER comes out.
i think boo is using it to communicate to the kids
i also believe that boo radley is the one filling up the knot hole. and mr. radley filled it up because he found out that boo was doing it, and maybe he doesnt want boo to be interacting with people. maybe he is the one that wants him to stay inside..
I think that Boo Radley is leaving things for the kids. When Scout rolls into his yard she says she could hear laughing from inside the house, and why else would there be carvings of the children.
***SPOILER***
During the fire Boo gives Scout a blanket because she is cold. I think that he is looking out for the kids.
Why would he want to communicate with them though?
He wouldn't keep putting stuff in his "hiding place" if it kept disappearing unless it was a gift for whoever passes by. But it was filled up after Jem left a note to the owner of the knot-hole... I think it's Boo Radley's knot-hole and once he realizes it is Jem that recieves his gifts he fills it up. Maybe he's tired of Jem harrassing him.
mhm the reason he did that i dont even know either...
i just thought that he was just trying to take the fun away from the kids
Okay, So if Boo is the one using it to give things to the kids, then it's probable that mr. Radley discovered what was happening and filled the tree up to stop Boo from what Mr. Radley assumed was "back-sliding." remember, They are "feet- washing" baptists..
Maybe he is looking for some friends because he is lonely. What if Mr. Radley is keeping him inside?
I think he thinks that the kids games are funny and that would be why he is leaving them presents. Maybe it's his family that doesn't want him to leave because they think something is wrong with him. Maybe he is autistic.
Maybe he does come out but nobody knows about it. But it probably was Mr. Radley that filled up the knot hole, he just assumed that people were trespassing on his property adn didn't want it to happen again.
I have the feeling that Boo is like a child in an adult's body. That's why he wants to communicate with the kids, he's like a kid. That's why he likes treasures and hiding places. Things that adults don't accept. I think the reason Boo is shut away all the time is because of this. His parents are embarressed of him. Hoping that the town would forget about him. The adults in Maycomb know something the kids don't about Boo.
He could be mentally unstable and they are scared to let him interact. Boo could be lonely and want friends, but Mr. Radley could be scared to let him be seen.
I don't think he is unstable, I just think that he has the mind of a child. He is probably trying to reach out and be friends with Jem and Scout.
okay...i'm really really confused. how many radley's are there?
Nathan and Arthur (Boo) Radley. Oh wait, there's Mrs. Radley too.
Mrs. Radley died though so now there are only two.
okay. and that nathan guy is the guy who is mean and plugged up the whole. okay gotcha. so Boo...is he a kid??
I think he is older then the kids. he is probably like 20.
