I found it hard to follow the story because i kept getting too tired to read. Can anyone on the blog explain what happened to clear my confusion.
I think she is around nine because she uses grammer well and i know she if younger then her brother. The way she talks about her brother makes me think they aren't very old.
So what makes you think they are that young. I guess Jem is like mayby around 12 years old.
I didn't realize that Scout was a girl...
Anyway, I think she is either 8 or 9 because she says that she is 4 years younger than her brother and she says that when he is 13, he breaks his arm. Then she goes on to say that all the trouble started before then which makes me think she is around 8 or 9.
At first when I read this I didn't realize Scout was a girl. Scout just isn't a very common name for girls. Did anyone else get confused about this?
Well Scout talkes about how Jem is older then her. I think they are around that age because they stil sound like little kids.
Ya where does it say that Scout is a girl. It really doesn't say much at all. Again I say can someone explain what happened. The book bored me a lot so i couldn't pay attention since I kept falling asleep.
Indeed, her voabulary does suggest she is older than what I presumed from the start. But, I don't know that that presumption is necessarily true. I think she is actually a full grown woman telling a story from of her childhood and that it's more o fa flashback situation. Like on page three, "When enough years had gone by to enable us to look back on them,we sometimes disscussed the events leading to his accident." This shows that the narrator has actually grown but then is telling the story from her younger self point of view. But it's just an opinion.
I didn't know Scout was a girl. The way she talkes and acts told me she was a boy so maybe that makes her a tomboy.
Basically they talked about how Dill came over for the summer and how they tried to get Boo Radley to come out of his house.
In the movie she is constantly described as a tomboy. I think she even gets into a fight later in the book.
Obviously, the story is talking about the past. It specifically says, "..it all started when.."
So she is a grown up tomboyish woman telling her life story?
Don't type so fast my comment is starting to be like 5 posts behind
I meant commentS
I know nothing about this book so I don't have any ideas about what it could be, but I do know the first chapter was slow and hard to get into.
Slow is a complete understatement it was flat out boring. This book does not interest me whatsoever
Yes it is. The first time I tried I kept falling asleep... But that might have had something to do with the fact that i was reading at like eleven o'clock.
i hope it gets better or i will have a hard time reading it.
I doubt it will get any better.
Oh believe me LW, it will. Just wait for the trial.
Anyone know what is going to happen in the rest of the book?
Ask bookworm. She will tell you everything about the book. Isn't that right.
My word you are an optimistic bunch. I think it will get better and it did interest me. It was a little slow but it still makes me want to know what is up with boo radley.
No. That's not true. I just like the book and like talking about it.
I thought that the first couple of pages were boring, and it took me a while to get into it, i wanted to put it down the first paragraph. but once you get to the part when they start talking about Dill and Boo Radley it started to interest me more, i believe it will get better once plot starts to develop.
Well, in this life you have to be optimistic. Especially when starting a new book which may or may not get better.
I bet you he will be a big part in the book. Time to Go!
Boo Radley is just some solitary bully. Mayby there will be a charater change with him but who knows.
He is NOT!
Please don't drop hints about the book. Or confirm specualation that you know as fact.
Now that that complaint is out of the way, I agree with most of what you've said. The age, 8 or 9. The gender, female. But boring? Ignoring the spoiler comments, you can't really tell if a book is "boring" by fifteen pages. Come on people, I'd like to think you have more integrity than that. I'm not saying it's the most captivating introduction I've ever read, but I didn't find it boring.
i compleatly agree with let the sun shine!cc
there is absolutly noooo proof that boo radly is a crazy man!
Bookworm, i agree.
Um...its quite possible that Boo Radley is a crazy man. The fact that he never comes out of his house is a pretty good reason to think he's crazy.
